The site for the new bridge was selected based upon its location within Mission Springs as well as the traffic line-of-sight on Lockhart Gulch Road. The site was cleared in October of 2007.
Construction on the foundations began in June of 2008. |
The foundations for the steel and concrete bridge structure consists of two abutments, one on each side of the creek. Each abutment is supported and held in place by piers. Each pier is approximately 30 inches in diameter and 30 feet deep. The piers were constructed of steel-reinforced baskets that were set in place with a special mix of concrete. |

Under the Mission Springs side abutment there are 10 piers and on the Lockhart Gulch Road side there are 15 piers. |

The deck of the bridge is supported by five custom manufactured steel beams that are bolted to the abutments.
It took two full days for the cranes to move the steel beams into place. Once the beams were in place, they were all connected. |
Steel trays were attached to the beams and two layers of steel reinforcement bars will support and strengthen the deck of concrete as it hardens.
The deck of the bridge is made of TEN INCHES of concrete!
Once the concrete was poured and in place, it needed 28 days to cure and reach its required strength.

The last project was to repair and asphalt the roads leading up to the bridge and to add the appropriate striping and traffic signs. The bridge was completed and opened for use on December 16, 2008. |
The final product is very attractive, and has little or no impact on its beautiful location. Mission Springs is grateful for the quality of workmanship that went into this bridge, and to everyone who made a financial contribution, making this project a reality. |
